Restart Your Comcast/Xfinity Router

Fix Connection Issues with a Router Restart

Most internet connectivity issues can be resolved by restarting your Comcast/Xfinity equipment.

Method 1: Manual Restart (Recommended)

  1. Locate your Xfinity gateway (modem/router combo) or separate modem and router
  2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the device
  3. Wait 60 seconds (this is important - don't skip this step)
  4. Plug the power cable back in
  5. Wait 2-5 minutes for the device to fully restart
  6. Look for steady (not blinking) lights indicating a connection
  7. Test your internet connection

Method 2: Via Xfinity App

  1. Download the Xfinity app (iOS or Android)
  2. Sign in with your Xfinity account
  3. Tap Internet
  4. Tap Restart this device or the modem icon
  5. Confirm the restart
  6. Wait 5-10 minutes for equipment to restart

Method 3: Via Web Browser

  1. Go to internet.xfinity.com
  2. Sign in to your account
  3. Click Restart Modem
