Fix Connection Issues with a Router Restart
Most internet connectivity issues can be resolved by restarting your Comcast/Xfinity equipment.
Method 1: Manual Restart (Recommended)
- Locate your Xfinity gateway (modem/router combo) or separate modem and router
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the device
- Wait 60 seconds (this is important - don't skip this step)
- Plug the power cable back in
- Wait 2-5 minutes for the device to fully restart
- Look for steady (not blinking) lights indicating a connection
- Test your internet connection
Method 2: Via Xfinity App
- Download the Xfinity app (iOS or Android)
- Sign in with your Xfinity account
- Tap Internet
- Tap Restart this device or the modem icon
- Confirm the restart
- Wait 5-10 minutes for equipment to restart
Method 3: Via Web Browser
- Go to internet.xfinity.com
- Sign in to your account
- Click Restart Modem
Understanding the Lights
- Solid white: Connected and working
- Blinking white: Starting up or connecting
- Solid red: No internet connection
- Blinking orange: Firmware updating (don't unplug!)
