Capture Your Screen
Multiple ways to take screenshots on Windows.
Method 1: Snipping Tool (Recommended)
- Press Windows + Shift + S
- Your screen will dim and a toolbar appears at the top
- Choose a capture mode:
- Rectangle - Draw a box around what you want
- Freeform - Draw any shape
- Window - Click a window to capture it
- Full screen - Capture everything
- Click and drag to select the area
- The screenshot is copied to your clipboard
- Paste it anywhere with Ctrl + V
Method 2: Print Screen Key
- Print Screen (PrtScn) - Captures entire screen to clipboard
- Alt + Print Screen - Captures active window only
- Windows + Print Screen - Captures and auto-saves to Pictures > Screenshots folder
Method 3: Snipping Tool App
- Search for "Snipping Tool" in the Start menu
- Click New to start a capture
- Select the area to capture
- Use the built-in editor to annotate if needed
- Click Save to save the image
Where Are My Screenshots Saved?
- Clipboard: Paste with Ctrl + V into any document, email, or image editor
- Windows + PrtScn: Pictures > Screenshots folder
- Snipping Tool: Choose save location when saving
Tips
- Use the Snipping Tool to capture dropdown menus (use the delay feature)
- Paste screenshots directly into emails or Teams chats
- Edit screenshots in Paint or Photos app before sharing
