Fix Common VPN Connection Problems
Having trouble connecting to your company VPN? Try these steps.
Basic Troubleshooting
- Check your internet connection - VPN requires a working internet connection first
- Restart the VPN client - Close it completely and reopen
- Restart your computer - This fixes many connection issues
- Check your credentials - Make sure username and password are correct
Common Issues and Solutions
"Connection timed out" or "Unable to reach server"
- Check if your internet is working (try visiting google.com)
- Try a different WiFi network or use mobile hotspot
- Some public WiFi networks block VPN connections
- Contact helpdesk - the VPN server may be down
"Authentication failed"
- Double-check your username and password
- Make sure Caps Lock is off
- Your password may have expired - try logging into your email first
- Complete MFA authentication if prompted
"Already connected" error
- Disconnect any existing VPN connections
- Restart the VPN application
- Check for duplicate VPN profiles
If Using Home WiFi
- Restart your home router
- Try connecting with ethernet cable instead of WiFi
- Move closer to your router for stronger signal
