Keyboard or Mouse Not Working

Fix Keyboard and Mouse Problems
Get your input devices working again.
For Wired Keyboard/Mouse
- Check the connection – Unplug and firmly replug the USB cable
- Try a different USB port – Some ports may not work; try one directly on the computer (not a hub)
- Restart your computer – This reloads USB drivers
- Test on another computer – This determines if it’s the device or your computer
For Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
- Check batteries – Replace with fresh batteries
- Check the USB receiver – Make sure it’s plugged in securely; try different port
- Turn device off and on – Use the power switch on the device
- Re-pair the device – Press the connect button on receiver and device
- Move closer to receiver – Wireless range is typically 30 feet
- Check for interference – Other wireless devices or USB 3.0 devices can interfere
For Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse
- Check Bluetooth is on – Click the notification area and verify Bluetooth is enabled
- Check device battery – Charge or replace batteries
- Remove and re-pair:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices
- Find your device and click Remove device
- Put your device in pairing mode
- Click Add device and reconnect
- Restart Bluetooth:
- Turn off Bluetooth in Settings
- Wait 10 seconds
- Turn it back on
Keyboard Typing Wrong Characters?
- Check Num Lock – If numbers appear instead of letters on a laptop
- Check keyboard language – Press Windows + Space to switch languages
