Clearing a Paper Jam

Paper jams are a common printer issue. Follow these steps to safely clear them.

Safety First

• Turn off the printer before attempting to clear the jam
• Wait for any hot components to cool down
• Remove paper gently to avoid tearing

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the printer’s access panels (front, back, or both)
2. Locate the jammed paper
3. Gently pull the paper in the direction of paper travel
4. Check for any small torn pieces of paper
5. Close all panels securely
6. Turn the printer back on
7. Print a test page

Preventing Future Jams

• Use the correct paper type and size
• Don’t overfill the paper tray
• Fan the paper before loading
• Store paper in a dry location
• Clean the rollers periodically
