Capture Your Screen

Multiple ways to take screenshots on Windows.

Method 1: Snipping Tool (Recommended)

  1. Press Windows + Shift + S
  2. Your screen will dim and a toolbar appears at the top
  3. Choose a capture mode:
    • Rectangle – Draw a box around what you want
    • Freeform – Draw any shape
    • Window – Click a window to capture it
    • Full screen – Capture everything
  4. Click and drag to select the area
  5. The screenshot is copied to your clipboard
  6. Paste it anywhere with Ctrl + V

Method 2: Print Screen Key

  • Print Screen (PrtScn) – Captures entire screen to clipboard
  • Alt + Print Screen – Captures active window only
  • Windows + Print Screen – Captures and auto-saves to Pictures > Screenshots folder

Method 3: Snipping Tool App

  1. Search for “Snipping Tool” in the Start menu
  2. Click New to start a capture
  3. Select the area to capture
  4. Use the built-in editor to annotate if needed
  5. Click Save to save the image

Where Are My Screenshots Saved?

  • Clipboard: Paste with Ctrl + V into any document, email, or image editor
  • Windows + PrtScn: Pictures > Screenshots folder
  • Snipping Tool: Choose save location when saving

Tips

  • Use the Snipping Tool to capture dropdown menus (use the delay feature)
  • Paste screenshots directly into emails or Teams chats
  • Edit screenshots in Paint or Photos app before sharing
