Fix Common VPN Connection Problems

Having trouble connecting to your company VPN? Try these steps.

Basic Troubleshooting

  1. Check your internet connection – VPN requires a working internet connection first
  2. Restart the VPN client – Close it completely and reopen
  3. Restart your computer – This fixes many connection issues
  4. Check your credentials – Make sure username and password are correct

Common Issues and Solutions

“Connection timed out” or “Unable to reach server”

  • Check if your internet is working (try visiting google.com)
  • Try a different WiFi network or use mobile hotspot
  • Some public WiFi networks block VPN connections
  • Contact helpdesk – the VPN server may be down

“Authentication failed”

  • Double-check your username and password
  • Make sure Caps Lock is off
  • Your password may have expired – try logging into your email first
  • Complete MFA authentication if prompted

“Already connected” error

  • Disconnect any existing VPN connections
  • Restart the VPN application
  • Check for duplicate VPN profiles

If Using Home WiFi

  1. Restart your home router
  2. Try connecting with ethernet cable instead of WiFi
  3. Move closer to your router for stronger signal
